10th anniversary of the SEM Sustainability Index (SEMSI)

Ashvin Chatoorsing, Head of Finance at Ascencia, was featured in Business Magazine on 24 September 2025  as part of the coverage marking the 10th anniversary of the SEM Sustainability Index (SEMSI).

On September 7, 2015, the Stock Exchange of Mauritius launched the SEMSI, a benchmark index designed to track the performance of listed companies that meet rigorous sustainability criteria.

Reflecting on this milestone, Ashvin noted:
“The launch of SEMSI ten years ago marked an important step for Mauritius’ financial market. Investors today are looking for much more than financial performance: they want to ensure that the companies they trust also contribute positively to the environment and to society. SEMSI thus helps position Mauritius as a responsible investment destination, a dynamic we are proud to be part of. Being included in SEMSI is a strong mark of recognition for Ascencia. It is also an encouragement to continue our efforts and go further in our sustainability innovations. It is in this spirit that we are implementing new projects, such as a cardboard treatment station at Bagatelle Mall and the renovation of our sorting station to improve efficiency. These initiatives will help transform our industry and strengthen Mauritius’ positioning as a regional reference in sustainable development.”
